Contribute
Cactuswiki grows with the help of growers, collectors, photographers and botanists. You can send new texts, corrections and photos. Everything you send is published with your name and under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence, so anyone can reuse it as long as they credit you.
Send everything to contacto@fcactus.com, with “Cactuswiki” and the plant name in the subject. We read every message and reply when your contribution is online, or if we need something else.
Contribution rules
By sending a text or a photo you accept these rules:
- Only your own work. You wrote the text or took the photo, or you hold the rights and can licence it. No copying from books, websites, catalogues or other people’s photos.
- CC BY-SA 4.0. Your contribution is published under this licence, with your name. Anyone may reuse it, even commercially, as long as they credit you and share alike. You keep your copyright.
- Accurate and checkable. Use the scientific name, say where the plant or photo comes from (habitat locality or field number, or “in cultivation”), and list the sources you used. Do not invent data.
- Botanical content only. No advertising, links to shops, prices, offers to buy or sell, or personal opinions about other people.
- Respect habitats and the law. No exact coordinates of wild populations of rare or threatened plants, and nothing that encourages collecting plants or seeds from the wild.
- Photos of people or private places only with their permission.
- Editing. We may correct, shorten or reformat texts, crop or resize photos, or decline a contribution that does not fit these rules. If we change the meaning of a text we will ask you first.
- Credit. Your name appears as author or photographer, as you give it. You can ask at any time to correct it or to remove your contribution.
Texts
You can send a new profile, a section for an existing one (description, habitat, cultivation, propagation…) or a correction. Please include:
- The plant: scientific name, and the link to its Cactuswiki profile if it has one.
- Your text, written by you. Do not copy texts from books or other websites unless their licence allows it; if you use sources, list them at the end.
- Your name as you want it to appear in the credit.
- That you agree to publish it under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Corrections can be short: a typo, a wrong synonym, a missing common name, better cultivation data. Tell us what is wrong and, if you can, where you checked it.
Photos
We are looking for photos of plants in habitat and in cultivation, flowers, fruits, seeds and seedlings. Please send:
- Your own photos. You must be the photographer or hold the rights.
- Good quality: in focus, at least 1200 pixels on the long side, JPEG, without watermarks or frames.
- Which plant each photo shows (scientific name) and, if you know it, the locality or field number and whether it is in habitat or in cultivation.
- Your name as you want it in the photo credit.
- That you agree to publish them under CC BY-SA 4.0.
Each photo is shown with ”© your name · CC BY-SA 4.0”. You keep the copyright: the licence only lets others reuse it with credit.
How contributions are published
- We check the text or photos and the plant name.
- We may edit texts for style and format, and crop or resize photos. The credit stays with you.
- The profile shows you as author or photographer, with the date.
Correcting a credit or asking for removal
