Opuntia multigeniculata (Cylindropuntia) has been variously reported to be a naturalling occuring hybrid or a stable and self-propagating species; some have reported that it is a hybrid between Opuntia echinocarpa and Opuntia whipplei. Apparently it has even been considered as a variety of Opuntia whipplei (Opuntia whipplei var. multigeniculata
