Description
Echinocereus pailanus (Cites: Echinocereus reichenbachii ssp. reichenbachii) is a nomen nudun (an avowed new name unaccompanied by a description or diagnosis) sometimes encountered in European nurseries. The name is actually invalid. It is used to indicate an intermediate form between Echinocereus reichenbachii and Echinocereus pectinatus. The taxonomic and geographic boundaries among this two species remain nebulous and controversial. Echinocereus pailanus distinguishes for its fine-textured pinkish-red or pink-brown pectinated spines. It is one of the finest cactus that is very pretty any time of the year, but when it blooms, that is truly a sight to see.
Note: The name does not exist in the international databases Http://www.ipni.org/ipni/plantnamesearchpage.do and Http://www.theplantlist.org/
